Structural Integrity

iicorr specialises in the development, planning and management of inspection, repair and maintenance schemes for offshore structures and appurtenances. Particular applications include steel jackets, topsides structures, concrete structures, FPSO's, risers and caissons.

iicorr provides inspection documentation for the accurate specification of tasks and job supervision to ensure work programmes are executed in a cost effective manner. This includes both onshore project management and offshore representation together with the provision of qualified structural inspection engineers to supervise site activities. iicorr augment a specialist contractors team, to inspect and assess defects on site, thus assuring the quality of collected data and the efficient conduct of operations.

Why use iicorr:

iicorr are world leaders in structural Risk Based Inspection (RBI), using our Questar ®-S range of methods for all types of structures and provide risk-based cradle-to-grave solutions to optimise asset availability. The scope includes the development of methodologies, plans and procedures for the topside and subsea inspection, tailored to specific client requirements.

iicorr has a Type A Inspection Body accreditation by UKAS under ISO/IEC 17020 for the in service inspection of structures both onshore and offshore, ensuring competent management and implementation of structural inspection.

iicorr provides a one-stop shop inspection management service. The Company has the skills and substantial experience of supporting clients in the development, planning and management of inspection programmes over a whole range of facilities. Typically iicorr involvement includes:

  • Optimising and documenting philosophies
  • Analysing histories and prior performance
  • Selecting components based on risk
  • Identifying contractors
  • Preparing technical specifications
  • Compiling the relevant inspection manuals/workpacks
  • Executing the programme using experienced structural inspection engineers
  • Dealing with anomalies and day to day issues
  • Final reporting and analysis

Applications:

Structural Integrity Management

Information Management

Information management is a key consideration in asset integrity management. Traditionally records demonstrate compliance with statutory requirements and company objectives. However, the use of information to improve inspection, maintenance and mitigation schemes and for action planning and control, generates more value.

It is vital to collect the right data to meet these needs. The costs of collecting and storing redundant data must be avoided. Database data must be integrated with data held on paper. iicorr enables the client to get real value from their data in a number of ways:

  • Strategic studies - determine the information that generates value and savings
  • Information Management - streamline data input, storage, retrieval and use.
  • Data analysis - details the structure of data for database design.

iicorr knowledge of a range of techniques supports the design of cost effective solutions to the use of data.

Information Systems

Information systems are provided by the integration of databases, application software and computing hardware. A range of options exists in these building blocks. iicorr has the expertise and experience to build cost effective systems, including:

  • Database design and construction - using many database products.
  • Application development - data manipulation and reporting.
  • Product selection - structured methods for purpose built product selection

Structural integrity databases are updated after every inspection campaign by entering new inspection data and anomalies. In addition, any modifications are included, of the risk assessment and more importantly after any repair work is carried out, such as closing out anomalies. This ensures that the database is a true reflection of the structures integrity at any point in time.

Structural RBI

Questar® -S applies the principles of Risk Based Inspection to Offshore and Onshore Structures. The product is the result of a two-year UK Government funded project developed jointly with the University of Aberdeen

Questar® -S targets structural inspection to areas of greatest criticality on a sound scientific basis. The methodology is tailored to specific client requirements, to optimise asset availability. The approach is not black box, but uses engineer judgement, supported by software to record decisions and to crunch numbers.

The cost of maintaining structures in hostile and corrosive offshore conditions, needs to be balanced against the increased risks to personnel and the environment of reducing inspection and maintenance.

There are three principal risk based levels each having a different level of complexity, and potential cost benefits. At the higher levels the Questar® method identifies the consequences and probabilities of failure for each structural component against a defined set of criticalities. The method is fully auditable and has been verified by DNV.

Implementation of Questar® -S results in optimisation of effort and resources to maximise safety and minimise cost, with possible financial savings of between 30% and 90% achieved over a five-year period.

Questar® -S has now been applied to over 70 offshore platforms in the North Sea, SE Asia and Australia, as well as several major onshore structures.
